The Comedian: The Rise and Fall of Carlton Jones is the latest film written and directed by Michal Samir. This political thriller tells the story of Carl, a stand up comedian making a living by travelling around Bedfordshire, performing at holiday camps and bachelor parties.
Carl wants more. He dreams of the biggest stages and having his name in glowing lights above the Hammersmith Apollo. But it’s not happening… His wife is pregnant with their third child, his second son, Hunter, is heading home with nothing but a degree in philosophy to show for his troubles. And Carl’s firstborn, Neil, fixes refrigerators in the family’s hometown of Bedford.
After being heckled at a family holiday camp, Carl’s frustrations spill over and he goes ballistic onstage. Video footage of the outburst quickly goes viral, with millions of people connecting to the points Carl has raised and seeing his loss of control as a modern day manifesto for the struggling British people.
Deprived of his only reliable income and with the mounting pressure of supporting his family, he is approached by a seemingly impressive, up and coming politician, who offers him the opportunity to not only change his life, but to change the entire nation.
